An immersion into the warmth of open fires and tribal rhythms during the Hornbill Festival, paired with a winter trek into the frosty Dzukou highlands. December only.

December in Nagaland is cold and bright. We begin at the Hornbill Festival in Kisama, sitting by open wood fires, listening to the thunderous beat of log drums, and tasting local smoked meats and rice beer brewed in hollow bamboo stalks. As the festival crowds gather, we slip away into the mountains, trekking into the silent, frosty winter landscape of Dzukou Valley where the peaks are dusted with morning frost.

Route: Kohima → Kisama Heritage Village → Dzukou Valley.
