A journey to a hidden valley of snow-capped mountains and pine forests on the Tibetan border, where life is lived inside dark timber cabins.
Mechuka feels suspended in an older, gentler time. Here, horse-grazed meadows stretch along the turquoise Yargyap Chhu river, and dark wooden cabins sit quietly under the shadow of giant peaks. This trip is about slow afternoons walking across suspension bridges and evenings spent huddled around stone hearths in Memba homestays. You will eat hand-pulled thukpa, listen to stories of old trade routes told by village elders, and walk paths through pine forests where the only sound is the wind in the branches.
Route: Dibrugarh → Aalo → Mechuka.
