A slow ascent into the high-altitude Buddhist heartlands of the Monpa people, where prayer flags catch the frozen mountain winds.

We cross the Sela Pass at 13,700 feet, where a silent, half-frozen lake sits surrounded by snow. The journey leads to Tawang, the birthplace of the Sixth Dalai Lama. Mornings begin before the sun rises, listening to the low drone of monastic horns and the soft rustle of woolen robes as young monks gather for prayers. You will spend your days sipping salty butter tea in wood-heated kitchens, walking through ancient oak forests, and spinning old copper prayer wheels that have been turned by seekers for four hundred years.

Route: Guwahati → Sela Pass → Dirang → Tawang.
